Now because I’m officially out of School, I need to be polishing up some of my work to show off my skills. I have a few models sitting around either unfinished, or just not up to the quality I want them to be. No better time to finish them than now. So to start off, I’m going to be reworking on of my favorite models ever, my Steampunk Carriage

This model was originally created for the 24 hour modeling competition over at Ferris in 2008. Unlike the year before, they gave us a genre and then would give us challenges to add as time passed. The theme turned out being Steampunk, and I decided on a vehicle. After playing around with a few sketches, I decided on a Carriage. Replace the horse with some sort of walker, and a single wheel gyro cab.

I started the cab as a sphere, and soon realized that it could look like a pumpkin, and that’s where the Cinderella idea came in. Later on we had to add ’stripes’, a rooster, and bright green to the model, which I simply put in as textures. I also had to deal with a tri limit, which at the time was new to me.

I ended up not even placing due to rendering errors (which I fixed by changing computers…but I didn’t even think to do so until 20 minutes after the deadline passed). Even though I didn’t go as far as previous years, I still liked the concept enough to keep it in the back of my head for the next couple years, and I think I’m finally going to go back to it. Over the next week or so, I’m going to be updating with the progress of the new model, starting..almost completely from scratch. Starting tomorrow, with sketching / planning.

This is a video I made for my marketing class a couple semesters back. Uploading it to test a few things flash-video related (yea, yea, I’ll make it HTML5 complaint down the line). The entire video was shot in about an hour down at GRCC on a low-def cam, then edited on After Effects / Premiere. The entire project took maybe 4 hours, since the shooting couldn’t be scheduled until the day before it was due.

There was a list of different things we had to follow, starting from scratch.
The the theme was steampunk, with 3 surprise elements thrown in as we went along. We needed to have a rooster on our model, stripes, and something had to be orange. I really like the idea, and hope to come back to this some time without a poly limit / with more thought into it.
